A loop from Romiley Station, through Chadkirk and along the old track past Goyt Hall Farm, returning through Bredbury and along the Peak Forest Canal. Takes 2 to 2.5 hours. The fields after Goyt Hall Farm can be muddy and the paths are indistinct in places, so when the ground is wet use the shorter road alternative up Clapgate, described at stop 4.

A short loop from Romiley Station to Chadkirk Chapel, up through the woods and back along the Peak Forest Canal. Takes 1 to 1.5 hours. To avoid returning the same way, take the footpath on your left just after passing under the canal bridge (point 4a in the Friends of Romiley Station booklet). It comes out on Urwick Road, where you turn right and head back to Church Lane.

A moderate loop from Romiley Station along the Peak Forest Canal and River Etherow to Compstall, then over the lower slopes of Werneth Low and back past Romiley Golf Course. Takes 3 to 3.5 hours. There are muddy sections on the approach to the River Etherow and around Far Benfield Farm, and it may be best avoided after very wet weather.

A long loop from Romiley Station through Chadkirk, past Goyt Hall Farm and around Brinnington, returning along the Peak Forest Canal. Takes 4 to 5 hours. Some sections are difficult to navigate because paths are sometimes indistinct, and the booklet suggests this is possibly not a walk to do alone. The route includes derelict industrial scenery and passes under and over a noisy motorway, along with some delightful stretches on old railway lines now converted to walkways. An alternative that avoids the industrial estate is described at stop 5.
